Huntley "Brinkley" Galey

Meet our newest member of the Galey family! Brinkley joined our family on Saturday when we stopped to see a new litter of puppies being sold down the street. Mindy quickly fell in love with him, so even though we weren't planning to get a dog till Christmas, we couldn't resist taking him home. He is an 8 week old miniature Schnauzer who is extremely shy yet very playful.

We named him after the 1960's news program Huntley-Brinkley. For those of us who weren't around during that time, Chet Huntley was a news correspondent in NYC and David Brinkley reported from Washington, DC. The program aired on NBC before the Nightly News was introduced. Since we both work in news, we wanted to name our new puppy with something appropriate and thought Brinkley was a subtle tribute to our industry and our beloved Washington, DC!

Even Mindy's Aunt Di, who isn't a dog person, thinks he's adorable. This is the first time any of us have ever seen her kiss a puppy!

Race for the Cure

On Saturday, October 10, Travis and Mindy will be participating in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5k run in OKC. This past spring, Mindy's mom was diagnosed with stage 0 breast cancer and is currently undergoing radiation treatment. We are running with co-workers from our station and are trying to raise $250 between the two of us. We haven't had much time to train so wish us luck! To donate, please use the following online link. Sail la Vie!

We bought a sailboat! It's a 17 foot, 1982 Vagabond named Sail la Vie. We bought it off of Craigslist for a great deal! Mindy's parents split it with us so we thought the name was appropriate. It sits in a boat slip on Lake Hefner (:15 from our house) and it's considered one of the best lakes in the country to sail on b/c it sits on a hilltop and is always windy (particularly for Oklahoma!) It has a pretty blue sail that we hope to get pictures of soon. Neither one of us really knows how to sail ...yet! But it's really not that difficult. We hope to take lessons but so far Travis and Mindy's dad have had no problems figuring it out. Our first time out, the 4 of us christened it with a bottle of champaigne. It has a small cabin where you can sleep 2 people but it's a tight fit. It's nearing the end of boating season, but we hope to use it quite a bit next summer. Come visit! August 28, 2009-- We just bought our 1st house! It's a 3bedroom, 2bath, 1 story home on the south side of Edmond, OK. We love it! Mindy's parents have been helping us move in and paint so it's starting to look more and more like 'home' every day. Come visit!

new jobs all around

We have exciting news! Mindy has been named the new statewide Web Anchor/Reporter at KWTV Ch.9 (CBS) in Oklahoma City AND Tulsa! She starts the day after Labor Day on Tues., Sept.8th and will be on-air weekday mornings.

We are especially excited to be working together...again! (although in separate departments) Travis is still enjoying his new position as the station's new Executive Producer of Sports. He's been working on revamping the weekend programming as well as launching a new statewide sports website.

Mindy's job is unique in that the station only recently created the position. She will be serving as a hybrid anchor/reporter for the Web...meaning she's on-air locally in 2 separate markets but her beat is online content. (she won't be reporting online but reporting on tv about the internet) She's excited to be able to report -inside- for a change...no more freezing cold liveshots ouside!

Our schedules will completely opposite but we feel very blessed to have full-time jobs that we enjoy! Travis will be working Wed-Sundays (mostly 3:30pm-11:30pm) and Mindy will be Mon-Fri (4am till noon).

We trust God moved us to Oklahoma for a reason and we are excited to finally close on our new home this Friday!

All good things must come to an end....eventually...even our incredibly adventurous summer!

These past 3 months we've criss-crossed the country....moving from Annapolis, MD to Edmond, OK. In between, we traveled to Hawaii, Dallas, Mexico, Albuquerque, and Florida, AND found a house! And true to Galey form, we finished out the summer with a bang! This month, Mindy flew to New Orleans and drove with her family to Pensacola for our cousins' wedding. Meanwhile, Travis' job kicked into high gear and he eventually met up with everyone in Florida. Afterwards, Mindy stayed in Florida an extra week to help babysit her niece and nephews before jetsetting to Albuquerque for her brother's 2nd wedding reception in ABQ.

Now we're both back in Edmond preparing to buy our 1st home this Friday. Phew!!! We're worn out!
